Complementary learning stems from the growing recognition that learning happens throughout a child’s day — at home, in school, and in the community. Complementary learning is the strategy of intentionally integrating both in-school and out of school learning opportunities.

OCASA and its member organizations meet with district and school personnel to constructively discuss the parameters and implementation strategies to align early childhood and afterschool programs as well as health and mental health services with the academic and youth development needs of Oakland schools.
