Create a city-wide infrastructure — Kids First 2 Coalition

In mid 2007, OCASA, EBAYC, Oakland Kids First, AYPAL, Youth Uprising and twenty other organizations came together to form the Kids First 2 Coalition to reauthorize the Oakland Fund for Children and Youth and to double the set aside revenues. OFCY reauthorization and expansion is OCASA’s major focus for 2008. Our goal is to make Oakland a safe place for children and youth, where they will have educational opportunities and support, where they will be encouraged and supported in their employment goals, where their health and wellness are our priority, where they can grow and raise their own families, and where their lives will be valued.

White Paper on Measure K (Oakland Fund for Children and Youth)

As a result of a series of meetings in early 2007 with its members and other stakeholders to discuss raise questions and surface issues about OFCY and its reauthorization, OCASA produced a “white paper”. Its purposes are to: 1) stimulate a community conversation regarding OFCY reauthorization; 2) reflect on the history of Measure K; 3) identify OFCY’s successes and challenges; and 4) re-envision what Oakland wants for its children and youth.
