The Attitudinal Healing Connection, Inc. (AHC) works to eliminate violence by supporting creative, educational programs that uplift the spirit and build peaceful and loving communities for all humanity.

History/Goals/Objectives:

AHC was founded in 1989.      AHC is a grassroots, community based 501c3 non profit organization founded in 1989, that addresses the psychological and social needs of individuals and communities confronting catastrophic situations.  The founders envisioned a community Center that would use spiritual principles to address catastrophic social ills caused by racism, violence and poverty.                Since its inception, AHC has been a community center in West Oakland, CA, providing monthly workshops, such as Mindful Drumming and Racial Healing/Diversity workshops, weekly support groups, and annual retreats that offer over one thousand men, women, children and youth non-traditional approaches to spiritual and mental health on an annual basis. Since 1995, AHC has sustained its programs and leveraged its resources by building strong community collaborations.    Attitudinal Healing Connection, Inc's commitment to Oakland children and youth for over 10 years stands strong as we utilize critical thinking tools and concepts through the creative and artistic process to facilitate self awareness, violence prevention and options for future careers.  AHC through its ArtEsteem program provides visual and cultural arts, as well as fashion for children and youth ages 6 to 18.  In addition AHC provides professional development for teachers in the areas of art integration and community building and provides trainings for parents with a focus on motivation for school leadership.  AHC provides to the public workshops, retreats and classes and events. AHC collaborates with agencies, hires and manages staff who have a personal investment in the success of Oakland youth, and as such provides quality, engaging and vital programs for the Oakland youth.   AHC's board and staff reflect the diverse Oakland population as a whole and more importantly the West Oakland community.  80 % of our board members live in the community we serve.
