Program Name: ArtEsteem

 

Program Description: ArtEsteem is an art and scoial justice program taht uses the arts as a tool for self-esteem, community-building, academic and emotional literacy.  ArtEsteem provides visual art, cultural art and fashion design.    Visual Art - provides a multi-disciplinary curriculum that takes children and youth through a journey of self-exploration, family and cultural research, societal assessment and aesthetic tools for skill and artistic creation.  The curriculum incorporates drawing, painting, bookmaking, printmaking, collage, culture, literacy, and the California Academic Content Standards for visual arts.    Cultural Art - provides students with cognitive learning opportunities through drumming in a cultural and language rich environment.  The curriculum incorporates phonics, the twin concepts of rhythm and sound, culutral codes of conduct from various parts of Africa and the California Academic Content Standards for Language Arts and Social Studies.    Fashion Design - is based on the investigation of self through an exploration of respect, confidence, performance and the fashion industry.  The class is an intense study of fashion and textile design.  Students learn about simple pattern making, basic hand -stitching, fabric dying methods, textile design and how to use the sewing machine for the creation of accesories and garments.

We provide a fashion design class on Saturdays from 10AM to 1PM at 2811 Adeline, Oakland 94607.  Interested students must register for the class.  Applications are available at 3278 West Street, Oakland 94608/t510-652-5530

Capacity to Deliver Services: Each site varies in terms of staff based ont he needs of the school.  At one school site there are 3 professional staff and 3 support assistant staff.

 

Days per week: 5 days a week              Hours per day: 1.5 to 2 hours

Student/Instructor Ratio: 1 to 8

Total number students (per school site): 60

We typically serve 15 - 20 students providing one teacher and one assistant

 

Contract Fee Schedule: For $50,000 we can serve 60 students in groups of 15 (2 to 3 days per week) for five days a week for the entire school year.

Instructor Cost/hour: $85 per hour  including assistant
