Mission Statement:
To promote the healthy development of individuals and families, to encourage service and volunteerism, and to help build community.
History/Goals/Objectives:
Over the last 25 years, BACR has steadily increased services in the East Bay through a range of interconnected programs focused primarily on supporting student academic improvement and success in school, particularly for children and youth who otherwise would not have access to support services outside of school. BACR's East Bay programs are both school-linked and community-based and located at more than 30 public schools and community settings, primarily in Oakland, Berkeley, Richmond, and other communities along the West Contra Costa Corridor. BACR services include AmeriCorps programs, after-school academic support and enrichment programs, academic mentoring programs, and school-based mental health programs.

Staff Capacity: 125
BACR's service capacity is made possible with a full-time staff of 125. In addition, the agency leverages significant support from more than 200 AmeriCorps and VISTA workers, 30 graduate-level mental health interns, and 1,200 volunteers a year. BACR's AmeriCorps national service program is known as one of the most effective programs statewide and nationwide. The agency's intern program has been one of the longest-standing and pre-eminent in the Bay Area for recruiting, training, and placing graduate-level interns in highly responsible school-based settings. This large cadre of trained professional and volunteer support makes it possible for BACR to deliver services and build capacity in low-income communities that otherwise would not have the resources to deliver critical services.
