Mission Statement:
Our mission is to provide nutrition and environmental education and to facilitate community building through a netword of neighborhood gardens.
History/Goals/Objectives:
OBUGS (Oakland Based Urban Gardens) is an 8-year-old grassroots organization working in West Oakland. Our work is divided into five categories: in-school programs, after-school programs, YO!BUGS programs (Youth Opportunity Based in Urban Gardens), Summer Camp, and the Mandela Farmers' Market. Our goals include increasing children's knowledge in science, ecology, and nutrition;increasing access to fresh vegetables for West Oakland residents; increasing students' enjoyment of learning; and building community through better health, leadership training, and safe spaces for children.
