Mission Statement:

The guiding vision of Youth In Focus is of a world in which youth and adults share knowledge and power to createa more just, sustainable, and democratic society. YIF pursues this vision through supporting under-represented youth and adult allies to engage in youth-led action research, evaluation and planning as a means to achieve social justice.     We recognize that the perspectives, knowledge, and interests of young people - particularly youth of color, immigrant youth, LGBTQ youth and low-income youth - are typically neglected in building and improving the institutions that shape their lives. Therefore, we stand with these under-represented and typically under-served youth, their adult allies, support organizations, and communities in their efforts to place and keep 'youth in focus.'

History/Goals/Objectives:

Founded in 1990, Youth In Focus has engaged thousands of young people in nearly 200 projects and dozens of communities in powerful experiential learning in the service of positive social change.     YIF's projects help bring youth voice to reshaping institutions that serve youth (educational, health, juvenile justice, community development) to be more responsive to their needs, assets, and aspirations, and more inclusive of their leadership.     YIF provide our partners with innovative and site-specific training, coaching, curriculum design, and facilitation to build their capacity to support, sustain, and celebrate youth-led research, evaluation and planning processes in their organizations and communities.     Youth In Focus operates in the Bay Area (through our Oakland office) and the Central Valley regions of California with community-based organizations, public schools, and agencies.
